A study period longer than 180 days generally uses an X1 visa; a study period of less than 180 days generally uses an X2 visa. X1 holders must normally apply for a study residence permit within 30 days after entry. Final requirements are determined by the admitting institution, the Chinese embassy or visa centre, and the competent Chinese authorities.
